Intervention Research to Improve Native American Health (R34 Clinical Trial Optional)

Notice Number:

PAR-25-378

Funding Instrument:

Grant

Funding Category:

Research and Development

Activity Code:

Planning Grant (R34)

Purpose: The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support research on interventions to improve health in Native American (NA) populations. This includes 1) etiologic research, where there is a significant gap in knowledge, that will directly inform intervention development or adaptations, 2) research that develops, adapts, or tests the efficacy or effectiveness of health promotion and disease prevention interventions, 3) research that tests culturally informed treatment or recovery interventions and 4) where a sufficient body of knowledge on intervention efficacy exists, research on dissemination and implementation that develops and tests strategies to overcome barriers to the adoption, integration, scale-up, and sustainability of effective interventions. Existing data suggest that significant acute and chronic disease inequities exist for NA populations. Concurrently, NA populations experience unique sociopolitical, historical, and environmental stressors and risks that may exacerbate health conditions and/or impact the effectiveness of existing solutions to address the conditions. They also possess unique strengths and resiliencies that can mitigate stressors or inform intervention strategies. Through this initiative, intervention and related research is sought to build upon community knowledge, resources, and resilience to test science-based, culturally appropriate solutions to reduce morbidity and mortality through identification and remediation of precursors to diseases and disorders and through culturally informed treatment. Interventions should be designed with a consideration for sustainability within the communities where they are tested, and have the flexibility to be readily adapted, disseminated, and scaled up to other communities where culturally appropriate. For the purposes of this NOFO, NA includes the following populations: Alaska Natives, American Indians (whose ancestral lands fall at least partially within the U.S. main land).

Activity Code:

Small Research Grants (R03)

Purpose: The New Investigator Gateway Award in T1D Research is designed to supporta robust pipeline of innovative projects and talented new investigators in T1D research. In addition to providing support for preliminary research, the Gateway program provides an opportunity for new Program Directors/Principal Investigators (PD/PIs) to pursue their studies within the intellectual environment of a select number of large, ongoing collaborative research programs. Embedding awardees within an established scientific framework in each of these consortia will provide unique opportunities for New andEarly Stage Investigators to increase their understanding of key questions in the field, to network, and to establish unique and potentially long-lasting collaborations that will propel their careers forward. Bringing New and Early Stage Investigators into existing collaborative research networks will also benefit the networks by providing new ideas and perspectives.

Funding Instrument:

Cooperative Agreements

Funding Category:

Research and Development

Activity Code:

Research Project--Cooperative Agreements (U01)

Purpose: The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to renew the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study of HIV in United States Adults (MWCCS) for a 6-year project period (2026-2032). Continuation of this epidemiological cohort study of middle-aged and older people living with HIV (PLWH), along with comparable individuals living without HIV (PLWOH) will enable the continued follow-up of a deeply phenotyped cohort of approximately 5,600 participants from across the United States. This initiative will utilize a populomics approach, i.e., examination of health determinants across multiple scales of influence (e.g. molecular, cellular, physiological, lifestyle/behavioral, household, neighborhood, environmental, cultural, and sociopolitical) using multi-disciplinary methods to investigate the web of influences impacting the health, quality of life, and survival of adults living with HIV. This NOFO seeks applications to fund a single Leadership and Coordination Center (LACC) for the MWCCS. This NOFO runs in parallel with two companion U01 NOFOs: RFA-HL-26-009 (Limited Competition: Clinical Research Sites (CRS) for the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) (U01 Clinical Trials Not Allowed)) and RFA-HL-26-010 (Limited Competition: Data Analysis and Sharing Center (DASC) for the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) (U01 Clinical Trials Not Allowed))

Time-Sensitive Evaluation of Policies Affecting Health Behaviors and Chronic Disease Risk (R01-Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Notice Number:

PAR-25-312

Funding Instrument:

Grant

Funding Category:

Research and Development

Activity Code:

Research Project (R01)

Purpose: This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) establishes an accelerated review/award process to support time-sensitive research to evaluate a new policy or program that is likely to influence obesity related behaviors (e.g., dietary intake, physical activity, or sedentary behavior) and/or weight outcomes in an effort to prevent or reduce obesity. This NOFO is intended to support research where opportunities for empirical study are, by their very nature, only available through expedited review and funding. All applications to this NOFO must demonstrate that the evaluation of an obesity related policy and /or program offers an uncommon and scientifically compelling research opportunity that will only be available if the research is initiated with minimum delay. For these reasons, applications in response to this time-sensitive NOFO are not eligible for re-submission. It is intended that eligible applications selected for funding will be awarded within 4 months of the application due date. However, administrative requirements and other unforeseen circumstances may delay issuance dates beyond that timeline.
